Look, I don’t want to spark any beef here.

But, please:

Fix your structs.

Not you, dear reader. You’re fine. It’s Epic Games that I’m talking to here.

It’s been more or less a year since I first ran into issues with them, and I haven’t seen them release a fix for in that time. Where’s my fix?

But before anything else, let me rewind a bit: I’m sure you’re wondering what kind of issues I’ve run into.

The answer to that is…nuclear, the nuclear kind.

See, the engine explodes about as hard as a nuclear bomb when I add new variables to some structs.

You might’ve had this happen, too. Maybe not with structs per-se (though, I know for a fact that I’m not the only one who has this problem), but you’re likely to have suffered through Unreal crashing constantly.

I know it’s annoying. I would prefer not to know, but I understand.

This stuff makes you waste valuable time you could be spending on learning new skills or improving your game…sigh.

Fortunately, there’s usually a fix for things like these. For most of them…

Even when there’s none, it usually doesn’t take Epic Games very long to push a new version with one.to fix in one of the newer Unreal versions. That’s something we can trust.

I may be annoyed, but I trust them with this. They’ll fix it eventually.

(Writing these emails just happens to be my way of complaining about them not having done so already.)

In the meantime, I’ve found a workaround to continue using structs:

Prepare myself to be bothered by the constant crashes
Make sure I don’t need to modify them much

For now, it’s just another of those quirks that Unreal has; you get used to them after a while, don’t despair.
